All properties that have a pool or spa now need to have their barrier inspected and compliance verified.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO
Step One
You were required to register your existing swimming pool or spa with your council by 01 November 2020.
Step Two
Council respond in writing and confirm registration of your swimming pool or spa. Council nominate the construction date of your swimming pool or spa and the applicable barrier standard that you must comply with.
Step Three
You appoint DDC Group to complete an inspection of your pool or spa. If you barrier complies with the applicable barrier standard, you will be provided with a Form 23 certification certificate.
Step Four
You lodge your certification with council.
Step Five
You repeat this process every 4 years.

How do you check if your barrier is compliant?
The following checklists (produced by the Victorian Building Authority) will help you assess the safety of your barrier. The checklists are based on the applicable barrier standard as applicable the when the pool or spa was constructed/installed.
It is strongly recommended that you complete a self-assessment of your barrier prior to having an inspection undertaken.

What if I don’t lodge a certificate with council for my pool or spa barrier?

It is an offence to not lodge a certificate of barrier compliance.
If you don't lodge a certificate of pool and spa barrier compliance by the due date, you may face an on-the-spot fine of approximately $330 and a penalty of up to $1,652.20.

How long is a certificate of barrier compliance valid?
​
A certificate of barrier compliance is only valid for 30 days after it is issued. It must be lodged with the relevant council within this period.
If the certificate is not lodged within the 30 days, a new inspection must be carried out and a new certificate issued and lodged with the relevant council.

Do I need to have my swimming pool or spa barrier inspected and certified?

Any pool or spa greater than 30cm of water and primarily intended for swimming and wading in requires registration and 4 yearly inspection/certification.
